Case Study: Sister to Sister Foundation

OVERVIEW: The leading cause of death among women in the United States is heart disease.

Highly preventable, the risks and dangers of heart disease have not easily broken through the clutter of information and concerns in many women's lives.

The Sister to Sister Foundation is a Washington, D.C.-based organization exclusively dedicated to the prevention of heart disease in women.

When the organization decided to make its first campaign outside of the nation's capitol, they looked to Dallas and The Reeds PRC.

STRATEGIES AND CHALLENGES: As home to the largest breast cancer advocacy organization in the world, Dallas seemed a natural place to take a stand on women's heart disease.

But imagine:

  • starting a city-wide health organization,
  • producing a major awareness campaign, and

RESULTS: And they achieved their vision for Sister to Sister without missing a heartbeat.

They also manage and raise all the funds needed to produce Dallas' Sister to Sister Heart Health Fair. In its first year, the Fair had the unprecedented involvement of all four of Dallas' major hospital systems.

The Reeds created the community partnerships, built the local board of directors, generated more than 22 million impressions without purchasing any media, and have attracted thousands of women to take care of their hearts.
